Craft by Merlin takes genuine Apple AirTags and turns them into tiny, hand-painted art pieces that are as fun to look at as they are hard to lose. Inside, they’re still full-featured AirTags: one-tap setup with your iPhone, iPad or Mac, location tracking through the Find My network, Precision Finding on supported iPhone models using Ultra-Wideband, and Lost Mode notifications if your item is detected by other Apple devices nearby.
Each AirTag has end-to-end encrypted location, a built-in speaker for play-sound pings, a user-replaceable battery and an IP67-rated water and dust-resistant shell—so it’s ready for keys, bags, luggage and gear you carry every day.
On the outside, Craft by Merlin makes the plain white surface optional. We carefully prep each AirTag’s face, then paint it by hand in small batches with designs that match our iPhones, AirPods, controllers and console collections. The stainless-steel back, speaker holes and internal structure stay untouched, and every painted piece is sealed with a durable clear coat so it can live on keyrings, bags and travel tags. Precision Finding, Find My, Lost Mode, tapping to pair and battery replacement all work exactly as Apple designed—only now your Apple AirTag by Craft by Merlin looks like a miniature collectible instead of a blank disc.

Are these real Apple AirTags or third-party trackers?
Every piece in this collection is a genuine Apple AirTag, sourced from Apple or authorised partners. We don’t use clone trackers or generic hardware. The Ultra-Wideband chip, Bluetooth, speaker, battery compartment and Find My support are exactly the same as a stock AirTag—we only customise the outer visible surface with hand-painted artwork.

No. Our process is designed so your AirTag behaves like a normal one:
- We do not block the speaker holes on the metal back, so play-sound alerts are still clearly audible.
- We don’t modify the internal structure, antenna or Ultra-Wideband chip, so Precision Finding and proximity tracking work as intended when used with supported iPhones.
- We don’t open or alter the internal seals; we paint only the exterior face and seal it with a thin clear coat. As with any cosmetic mod, we don’t re-certify IP67, but we work to preserve the original level of protection as much as possible.

Yes. The battery compartment works exactly the same as on a standard AirTag. You can press and twist the stainless-steel back to open it and replace the coin cell when needed.
Our artwork is focused on the white face side; the metal back remains functional. Just follow Apple’s standard instructions for battery replacement, and avoid using sharp tools on the painted side when you handle it.

Setup is identical to a normal AirTag:
- Remove any pull tab or plastic wrap.
- Hold the AirTag near your iPhone or iPad; a popup appears automatically.
- Tap Connect, choose a preset label or custom name, and link it to your Apple ID.
- Attach it to keys, bags, luggage, camera gear or anything else you don’t want to lose.
From there, you can see it in the Find My app, play a sound, use Precision Finding on supported iPhones, enable Lost Mode, or share access with family (where supported). Our paint doesn’t change any of this.

Because these are original Apple AirTags, hardware issues are generally handled under Apple’s standard limited warranty and local consumer laws, subject to Apple’s terms. Cosmetic modifications like paint are usually not covered by Apple.
Craft by Merlin adds a separate artwork craftsmanship guarantee for the painted finish:
- If you notice a genuine defect in the paint or clear coat on arrival (peeling, bubbling, major misprint), you can contact us with photos and your order ID.
- We’ll review and offer repair or resolution options depending on the case and timeline.
To keep your AirTag looking great:
- Attach it using a case, loop or holder instead of metal split rings directly scraping the artwork, if possible.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth—avoid alcohol, acetone or abrasive cleaners.
- Expect some natural patina if you use it on keys or luggage; it’s built to be carried, not hidden in a drawer.
